On the 17th of August, 1988, there was a malfunction in the microwave oven within the Hawking I, a 1975 Amana Radarange oven. This was following a series of malfunctions with the oven, which were largely ignored. It is believed that the incriminating malfunction involved the power transformer within the machine and its overall old age. Doctor Miles attempted to repair the machine, which is believed to have worsened its damage to an irreparable state. The microwave oven has been safely contained within the storage area in the AYSE module and will be returned with the Hawkin I upon return to Earth.

The lock between the two crafts must be sealed thoroughly before the opening of the habitat airlock. At least 10 minutes must elapse before the airlock door may be opened, to ensure the pressurization of the AYSE module. The seal can be recognized by a quiet sucking noise, not unlike the air being sucked out of a balloon or airtight bag.
