Exemplar

Example Member is an exemplar, and as such, her article is made up of stylistically important elements. Be sure to view the page source by clicking the "edit" tab in order to see how to code such elements.

The Member Template

Every Member article needs to have a member box. The member box can be specified by typing {{Member}} in order to trasclude the member template onto the page. You can see the source of the member template at this page, where it will also tell you what each of the parameters within the template will do.

Edit Permissions

Main article: Member Page Protocol

Without seeking permission to create a wiki page for a member, you are not allowed to do more than post the member box. You must especially not post a picture of that member without seeking permission.

  • If a member has not been asked whether or not they would like their member page to be edited, include the {{NoInfo}} template on their talk page.
  • If a member has declined permission to edit their member page, include the {{NoUserPermission}} template on their talk page.
  • If a member has granted permission to edit their member page, include the {{UserPermission}} template on their talk page.

The {{UserPermission}} template is demonstrated on this page.

Training Summary

The Training Summary indicates the level of competence or training a member has been judged to have with a particular mission-related station. The four levels of training are: Not Trained (n), Training In Progress (i), Training Complete (c), and Instructor (instructor). The template can be included by typing {{Training}} and appending all of the appropriate variables within the template's curly braces as indicated on the Training template page.

Because of how the wiki wraps tables, if the training summary is included, you must use the Template:MemberNest in order to provide proper wrapping of the Member Box and Training Summary.

Content

Member articles are more than just a box and a picture. They're an account of what that person has done for Spacesim and what Spacesim has done for them. Examples of appropriate content include:

Positions Held

Example Member was the Quartermaster and is a Mission Commander, it would be appropriate to note how and when she achieved those positions, and why she wanted to occupy them in the first place.

Projects Led

If the member has contributed in a large way to a particular task force, it may be appropriate to note their contribution in a section on their member page. For instance, Example Member led the Artificial Gravity task force that allows astronauts to experience microgravity.

Hilarious Occurences

If something completely hilarious that will be talked about for generations involves this member, then it should be noted on their member page. For example, Example Member destroyed the UTSDC team with a welding torch.

Mission Activities

Most members participate in the mission, and their contributions should be noted. Example Member worked in Mission Control during Awesome Mission 2012. When More Better Awesome Mission 2013 occurs, her page would be amended to include her work during that mission.

Pictures

The Member Box included with every member page has room for one picture in it. Only one other picture is permitted on a member page of that member. At least one of the two pictures (if there are two) must be of the member at Spacesim or participating in a Spacesim sanctioned activity.

True Talk

@Jeffcott: You had some ideas for how Member pages should look. Perhaps you should take over this exemplar. -- Stefanido 16:48, 24 March 2010 (EDT)

Stefan, I'll pay you minimum wage to write fiction for me. - Darth Wombat 23:19, 24 March 2010 (EDT)
After reading this crap? Go read someone who can actually write interesting stuff like Neal Stephenson. I <3 Anathem and Snow Crash. -- Stefanido 14:54, 25 March 2010 (EDT)
