An extended EVA is an EVA that is scheduled to take longer than a normal EVA.

Normally, EVAs should last from fifteen to twenty minutes. An extended EVA lasts longer, and in certain circumstances involves astronauts leaving the simulation parameter to attend to other commitments using the EVA as a beta cover up. Extended EVAs are almost never done, and they are frowned upon as a major breach of Mission Integrity.

Extended EVAs
*In 2004-05 Stefan De Young and Jonathan Scothorn went on an extended EVA to perform in Senior Music Night, thereby breaking The Golden Rule.
*In the mission Red Dawn 2008, astronauts Anthony Xing and Matt Farkas-Dyck went on an extended EVA, ostensibly to locate the Viking probe, but in actuality to participate in the AMC 12 math contest. Later during the mission, astronaut Daisy Wong went on a extended EVA in order to participate in the recertification of her life guard status. This second EVA was especially eventful as it deprived the Habitat of the crucial third EVA suit during the dust store incident. Further, it ended in a spectacular breach of Mission integrity when simulator Ian G-R "smuggled" her back on to the Habitat through the non-existent long house door, and then announced to the stunned and hallucination astronauts that there was cake on earth waiting to be had.
Anthonyhttp://www.wiki.spacesim.org/index.php/Talk:Stefan_De_YoungTalk:Stefan De Young2010-03-12T14:47:16Z
Anthony: New section: New material

Bunkbedgate is a term referring to the collapse of two bunk beds during Mission Coronis and to the ensuing scandal surrounding their construction and the activities of their occupants. Key players included Kevan Adlard, Alex Foo, Stefan De Young, and Nevin Hotson.

Lead-up
During the months prior to Coronis, Kevan and Alex had been the members in charge of the construction of a set of six bunk beds to hold the astronauts in the Longhouse during the Mission. The beds consisted of three sets of paired beds stacked two to a unit, and were constructed of wood.

The collapse
On the first night of the mission, Stefan entered his bunk, the top bunk of the third unit, via the Kevan-built stepladder constructed for that purpose, only to have the deck of his bed snap off the rails and fall onto the thankfully unoccupied bunk below, assigned to Nevin. Stefan was luckily uninjured in the collapse, but his bunk was unusable and the other top bunks were ruled unsafe pending investigation, and the crew members on top bunks slept in the Interlock. The wreckage of Stefan's bunk was jettisoned via the airlock.

The following day, during efforts to continue removing what was left of the top bunk, the lower bunk collapsed after the repair persons (Stefan and Nevin) were inspired to test the strength of said bunk by lightly jumping on it.

Incriminations
The Habitat crew immediately blamed Kevan for the collapse, since he had been responsible for the design. Investigation revealed that the screws which fastened the wood that supported the slats to the rail had been placed too close to the bottom edge of the rail. It was thus inevitable that the screws would rip through if the bed was subjected to load. There was no other fastening supporting the slats.

Kevan immediately claimed that Alex had been responsible for the actual construction of the third set of bunks, and had used scrap wood in its construction. He further charged that the second bunk had collapsed because Stefan and Nevin had been jumping on it.

Results
Kevan and Alex rebuilt the top bunk during the mission under the cover of "Robbie the miraculous bed repairing robot that will kill you if you look inside the longhouse while it's working on the beds" that was created by an irate and sore Mission Commander De Young. Despite this, Nevin elected not to sleep under it for the remainder of the mission, while Stefan returned to the top bunk. Reinforcing wood was added to all bunks to prevent another collapse. The units were then inspected and declared safe for further use.

In 2007-08, the destroyed bottom bunk was replaced. No collapses took place during the following Mission Red Dawn.
Anthonyhttp://www.wiki.spacesim.org/index.php/Template_talk:MissionTemplate talk:Mission2010-03-12T03:24:54Z
Anthony:

:::I disagree -- it's quicker and easier to just read them off the table. They can be stated in the article as well, in a less direct way, but if you're someone who just wants to get fast information (like me), the table's helpful. Is it possible to have a bunch of positions that can be included, but don't have to be? For example, this year we had two Mission Specialists, but in past years we've had more than that, or less than that, or none at all. So having rungs in the table that can be left blank and therefore do not show up would be nice. Don't know if you can do that or not, though, being somewhat of a wiki newbie. Also, as to how I'm feeling, I'm lovely, thanks, except that it feels like the room is on fire and my face is going to explode. I'm also apparently channeling Shaun (AssCreed2). In other news, I'm missing the worksession tomorrow. Pout. -- carter 22:20, 11 March 2010 (EST)

::::::But the commander ranks don't relate directly to the mission, they are the ranks within the club, not positions fulfilled during a mission, and they are on the "year" template anyhow. I'm inclined to think that the mission template ought to reflect the post members held during the mission, including ground(non-astro) positions (ie "Flight Director" and "Simulation Director", they used to be the only mission posts other than Hab-Cmdr). These info relates more distinctivly to the mission itself, and yes, I do realize that it will make for outragously long templates. But I think having all that boring table-esque info neatly formated in a table looks good no matter how long it ends up to be.--Anthony 22:24, 11 March 2010 (EST)

Lore

Anthony's dances are a series of exaggerated motion and gestures that Anthony Xing sometimes employs to help explain certain ideas, or to express his opinion towards certain subjects such as calculus. Certain members, like Daisy, have found them to be very amusing and have subsequently requested their performance during the work sessions; a request that Anthony fulfilled most of the time. Though he himself does not consider them as dances, or anything unusual for that matter, others around him seem to have began to compile lists of such dances and the instances that they were "performed".

These such dances include the infamous "Raindrop Dance," which was the point of Anthony's debut. Following that were others such as the "Octopus Dance," "1812 Overture Dance", and the "Barr-body Dance," which is often considered the pinnacle of his career. Many other dances are yet to be discovered.
Anthonyhttp://www.wiki.spacesim.org/index.php/AstronautsAstronauts2008-10-24T20:54:55Z
Anthony: links

In the context of the OCESS's annual Mission, the astronauts are the members who enter the Habitat for the purposes of simulating space flight and exploration.

The astronaut positions are coveted amongst members of the OCESS as only a few positions are available, and those who go will always remember the experience. That however is only half the story (or a third if you ignore mission integrity) as two other groups of students exist within the OCESS (these being the Mission Control Staff, and the Simulator) providing an enjoyable experience for all.
Spacesim Groups

Purpose
The purpose of astronauts is to collect the data from the experiments, simulate living in space, and react to Mission Control's decisions. They are isolated from the outside world for the duration of the mission, during which time they experience the trials and tribulations of space exploration.

Crew Positions
As far as known, in OCESS's early days, crew roles were not specified except the role of the commander. In one account by a exchange member from Lexington, he contrasted the Lexington Simulation's segregation of roles with Lisgar Simulation's flexible duties. When Robbie the Robot was introduced, a specialized position was informally created for its operations. Starting with the 2003-04 Mission to the Moon, OCESS gradually created and formalized astronaut positions that are still used today.
However, due to the time elapsed since his participation in OCESS directly, not much else is known. He is, however, perhaps one of the most involved alumnus. Daniel maintains the server of the Lisgar Alumni Association, and the websites, including that of OCESS like this one. He is also believed to be the owner of the domain name "spacesim.org". This was done so that OCESS will not have to change domain name in case of change in support from other organizations.
Anthonyhttp://www.wiki.spacesim.org/index.php/Jennifer_LiJennifer Li2008-10-24T19:35:59Z
Anthony: corrections

Nevin Hotson has been a member of the OCESS since September 2005. He has participated in the Mission for each of his three years in the Simulation, acting as an Able Crewman on Prometheus, Chief Engineer on Coronis, and Habitat Commander on Red Dawn.

In the OCESS
2005-06
In 2005-06, Nevin worked on such projects as the Habitat doors and the plumbing system. He participated in that year's EEP, the last one done in the past few years, and in two planetarium presentations. On Mission Prometheus, he held the fairly nondescript job of Able Crewman.

2006-07
Nevin began 2006-07 by taking on the role of Webmaster. Most of his time at work sessions continued to be spent working on the doors, which gradually morphed into the bane of his existence by defying all attempts to make them work.

During Mission Coronis, he was notable chiefly for his work in the position of Chef Engineer and for his involvement in Bunkbedgate. His participation in a planned Extended EVA was cancelled due to Alpha weather conditions.

2007-08
In 2007-08, Nevin was selected as Mission Commander for his final year in the OCESS. Initiatives undertaken during his tenure included the construction of the Engine Closet, the development and partial implementation of the NOVEL system, and the final development of a door system that actually works.

As Habitat Commander during Mission Red Dawn, Nevin led the mission to a generally successful and only slightly tardy conclusion while managing to transmit a cold to most of his crew.

Outside the OCESS
Nevin was on Lisgar's Reach for the Top team since Grade 9, and was the captain and top scorer in 2007-08.

After his high school career, Nevin is currently continuing his studies at the Royal Millitary College, in Kingston, Ontario.
The Smoking Toilet of Doom refers to an incident which occured at Space Camp. It was the practice of those running Space Camp to perform many demonstrations involving Liquid Nitrogen. As a final demonstration, any excess liquid nitrogen already pour out of the large liquid nitrogen container, and thus cannot/very hard to be re-stored and reused, is dumped into a toilet and flushed. The boiling of the liquid nitrogen, and the condensation of atmospheric moisture induced by cold nitrogen vapor give the impression of smoke coming out of the toilet, hence the name. On one occasion, excessive nitrogen was poured in, which froze the water in the toilet bowl.
Guangye Cao is an alumni of OCESS who left the organization premeturely after the 2006-07 school year due to her choice to spend her last year of highschool in China. During her time with the club, she was very involved in areas of public relations and the planetarium program. She served as the planetarium commander in the year 2006-07 and was designated as the planetarium commander under the first year of the restructured hirechy, which would have saw her rise to club head status. However, she did not return to take the post.
Anthonyhttp://www.wiki.spacesim.org/index.php/File:GuangyeCao.jpgFile:GuangyeCao.jpg2008-10-23T23:39:19Z
Anthony: Guanye Cao, in 2007.
